DFP Documentarian Awards
A portfolio-based photography competition
The DFP Documentarian Awards is a portfolio-based photography competition offering photographers the opportunity to showcase their skills, artistic voice, and creative vision through a cohesive body of work. It recognizes not only individual photographs but also the ability to curate a collection demonstrating a photographer's mastery and unique perspective in documentary photography and the chance at the highest accolade of the Documentarian of the Year Award.

Documentarian of the Year
WINNERS
The Documentarian of the Year Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, as well as the finalists, were judged, scored and chosen by our jurors based on the entire body of work/portfolio of up to 20 images submitted by each photographer who participated. The submitting photographers’ portfolios were kept anonymous during the judging process in order to keep the results as fair as possible.

Community Choice • Single Image
WINNERS
The Community Choice - Single Image Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, as well as the finalists, were selected via community voting process by members of the DFP Community, and were awarded based on number of votes on individual images. The submitting photographers’ images were kept anonymous during the voting process in order to keep the results as fair as possible.

JURORS and JUDGING
In addition to the DFP Community voting, the 2023 DFP Documentarian Awards were judged by Chuck Anerino, Jenna Shouldice, Ana Guisado and Ash Raddatz.
When he’s not behind the camera, Chuck’s career has been in secondary education for the past eighteen years where he has worked as a Social Studies teacher, Photography teacher, and a full time Dean of Students for a Philadelphia public high school. During this time, Chuck has created two high school photography programs and has inspired the next generation of photographers for the past eleven years. He is a proud husband and father to three sons.

Jenna is a documentary photographer based out of Victoria BC where she lives with her husband and young daughters. Her documentary work focuses on women’s issues and more specifically, the labour process. In addition to being professionally trained as a photographer, Jenna has a degree in Psychology and trained as a doula in 2011. Her birth work has been published internationally in multiple languages both online and in print.

Ana is the COO & Co-Founder of DFP, a Spanish documentary family photographer based in Munich since 2011. Photography has always been her passion, thanks to her dad's influence, who used to take her to his night classes and let her to play with the enlargers. After a career in Marketing, she relocated to Munich with her family and turned her hobby into a full-time job. A few years years down the line, she co-founded Documentary Family Photographers (aka DFP), and since then she splits her time between business management and capturing timeless moments for clients. Outside of work, you’ll most likely find her traveling around with family or unwinding with friends over a glass of wine

Ash Raddatz is the CEO & Founder of DFP and an American photographer based out of Jena, Germany. Her photographic work around Autism has been published numerous times around the world and has been used in thesis research and text books. In addition to photography, Ash has a background in marketing & communications, a wild (and at times inappropriate) sense of humor, and a love of helping and encouraging others. Ash is passionate about continuing to transform perspectives surrounding documentary photography.
